Privacy
Compass lets a small business record what it sells, mostly by sending a WhatsApp message. This page explains what happens to the information that passes through it.
What we hold
- The phone numbers of the people you add as staff, so we know who is sending a message.
- The messages your staff send to your shop’s WhatsApp number, and what we understood from them.
- Your sales, your customers, your prices and your expenses — the book itself.
- The messages your customers send to your shop’s WhatsApp number, and the replies Compass sent them.
How a message becomes a sale
Your message is read by Anthropic’s AI model, which is shown your price list and your customer list so it can tell what the words name. It decides what was sold and for whom. So the messages your staff send — including customer names and amounts — are sent to Anthropic, along with your price list and customer list.
It does not decide what anything costs. Every price and every total is read out of your own book by the software, and Compass will not send a reply containing a figure it did not work out itself.
Nothing is recorded until Compass replies with what it understood and the person confirms it.
When a customer messages your shop’s number, Anthropic’s AI model reads their message and your recent conversation with them, their name and when their membership ends, along with your prices, opening hours and branches, so it can answer them. When you ask Compass a question, your question and the figures it worked out from your books are sent to the same model to word the answer.
Voice notes
Compass reads text messages only. If someone sends a voice note, Compass never downloads it, listens to it, or writes it down.
Your business’s information stays yours
Each business on Compass is kept separate. One business’s information is never used to answer anything, or improve anything, for another business.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising or for any other purpose. The only outside companies involved are the ones needed to run the service:
- Anthropic, whose AI model writes the wording of the replies.
- Supabase, which hosts the database your records are stored in.
- Vercel, which runs the application.
- Meta (WhatsApp), which carries the messages to and from us.
Your information is stored in the European Union.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you are using Compass. If you stop using it, or you want your information deleted, write to us and we will delete it.
